Anybody have any advice on what to do about my Idrive screen not booting?

I start the car and have no screen and the Idrive control is spinning freely.

Is there a fuse that I am not aware of?

How about a re-boot method? I don't have a owners manual and I am relying on everyones knowledge here on the forum.

Please enlighten me fellas.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

PS- dont reply with "take it to the dealer"......

Press and hold the Mute button the CD eject and DVD eject at the same time...if you didn't have NAV DVD I'm not sure....

Usually if it happens when you start up the car leaving the car sitting ignition off for 10 minutes it will reboot. I had one time when the above procedure didn't work and it needed to sit for 10 minutes.

Thanks man, but I tried that and nothing happened.

I let the car sit for 20-30 minutes in between restarts and still no Idrive.

"take it to the dealer"......

Just kidding.
that sucks. I had similar issue with my Cayenne S navigation unit that the dealer just replaced it iwht a new one.

Let me know what the fix is.

most replies are to try and reboot the ccc via: Hold down both the CD eject, DVD eject, and the power button (a.k.a. the volume knob) at the same time.

or it's the answer you didn't want us to reply with...

curious as to see why you do not want to hear that answer tho, as it seems as if the problem would be a software issue(hopefully not hardware), the answer could just be that simple...

GL, hope things gets resolved, keep us posted

Well simply , the car is not under warranty and I have a strong suspicion the dealer is not going to be inexpensive or quick with a repair.

I'll keep researching and hope for a resolution.

I really appreciate everyones help though!

I'll keep you posted and thanks agian ,

some things on car have warranty longer than u and I think it has.

For example, my brother-in-law has an e39 540i sport. With Manufacture warranty well over expired years ago, his catalyic converted went bad (both of them). He took to the mecanics (who is a bmw mechanic works on the side) told me to take to the dealer and they fixed it free of charge. :-) He was so happy. Cuz I think it would have costed him close to 2k with installation if it ame out of his pocket.

Sorry that didn't help. Just an odd thought here, try ejecting the NAV DVD and any CDs before you reboot.

Latest update:

Everything was fine at start up this afternoon. Screen was enabled and Idrive functioned correctly.

20 minutes into my drive the Idrive chimed with an electrical failure warning and advised me to seek the nearest BMW dealer. After about 5 seconds the warning went off and everything went back to normal.

I parked the car within 30 minutes but, noticed my Escort x50 was still powered up after arming the alarm.

What the hell?

Any ideas???
