idrive fix for e60
Recently had my windows and tail lights tinted. upon picking up the vehicle noticed my battery cover seemed to have been messed with. didn't give it much thought until I turned the car on and my idrive was acting erratic. the volume symbol showed it was on mute but the mute button would not work. also when trying to change over to aux the menu would jump back to fm radio. after trying to select an fm station it would then jump up and down between the stations and the top of the menu where it shows the fm am cd aux. after speaking to the shop that did the work with no help I looked online and was able to piece together some posts. i assume that the battery died when they were working on the car and they jump started it improperly. after trying these steps everything returned back to normal. I just wanted to share this incase anybody runs into a similar problem.
-with the car off I inserted the key and turned it to position 2 without starting the car
-I then turned the headlights on using the manual on setting
-after that you must remove the positive battery cable
-go into your glove box and remove fuses 15 and 7(look in trunk for exact location)
-let the car sit for 5 mins
-after sitting hook battery back up and replace fuses.
-start vehicle
that should fix the problem you will just have to reset date and time.
hopefully this helps out somebody. saved me a trip to the dealer and a lot of phone calls.

Bavarian witchcraft? I'd be more interested in how you concocted this remedy. If it helps someone then it is well worth it.
