I guess I spoke too soon. I started my car today, went somewhere for 1 1/2 hours, when I returned to my car and started it the iDrive screen was blank! I think the software update did not do the trick. It was blank for a short ride. Stopped again. When I restarted the car shortly thereafter, all was ok.
Verry sorry to hear about that !
Based on my small personal experience, this issue - incompatibility between last progman update and CCC - should be raised to BMW for -at least partial - rebate on the price of CCC replacement.
Also do not forget two things:
- when my first CCC died - as my delaer was unable to replace it immediately, i stayed 2 weeks without iDrive - my battery was progressively drained (starting loosing time and date, then car war longer to start.... Electronics are sometimes intricated ...
- second, ask for a NEW CCC (as I had to get 2 CCC replacements in order to find things getting better...
Good luck !

Well I guess it was too good to be true, my iDrive went blank today & I think it's for good. The dash area made a big "pop" sound and the screen went blank. There were several thin vertical lines on the screen and that was all. I restarted the car later on and it's still blank.

Does anyone know if you can purchase a different computer in lieu of the BMW CCC? Since the CCC is not covered by CPO, I'd rather seek other options.

Thanks.

Three hours later, started the car and iDrive is back!! Dang this is crazy.

Anyone have a cost to replace the CCC with the latest 2008 version? I'd hate to lose iDrive on a trip where I need the Navi. I also hate to lose the the audio.

Last question.....can I replace the BMW system with a Pioneer AVIC system and not screw anything up? Assuming the AC vent controls & seat heat distribution stay where they are today, the new system will have the bluetooth, Aux adapter, and Navi. Thoughts?

I believe it should be covered under CPO extended warranty. My I-Drive shorted out and wouldn't come on for a couple of days. They reinstalled or recoding the software and it works fine now. But it might depend on the problem. Good luck.
My I-Drive has been out for almost 2 weeks...Going crazy!!!! Scheduled for service next week. How much did it cost you for the recoding???

My CCC broke last weekend and the car is in the garage at the moment. They have siad that they will first try to upgrade the software, but if that doesn't work it's a new CCC at around ?900.

I sould know tomorrow if the recoding/update is a possibility and also if it works. I'll keep you posted.

Miguex,

Do you still have audio? i.e. the music/parking sensors make noises but the screen is dead OR has the whole system gone blank and silent?
