Is the idrive brake service interval reliable?

My Idrive says I have 5000 miles left to go for rear brakes, is it reliable give or take 100 miles or should I replace them now? There making a little squealing noise when I stop (not to noticible), but I was just wondering. Thanks.

Mine's saying 22000 miles until the front ones need to be changed and 32000 for the rears, but in the cold weather they too make a very slight noise, which seems to go away after the brakes warm up. I attributed it to the air tempreture, but now I'm paranoid too that the iDrive is just wrong. Thanks a lot, man!
Maybe that's why the brakes on these cars are so expensive?

That's something I've always found curious. My car had 4 miles on it when I took delivery, and now with 12k+ on the clock, it says I need rear brake service in something like 22,000 miles, and FRONT brake service in something like 38,000 miles! Who knew that FRONT brakes could last almost twice as long as rears! I'll definitely be bringing that up to the SA when I'm in for the first free oil change.

Go by feel. Mine said that the brakes had 12,000km left on them, but the dealer said that the pads we no longer legal. Had them changed and the iDrive STILL said only 12,000km on them. Had to get the thing re-set manually, but it has made me just that little more skeptical about the iDrive indications.

You can count on it!
I changed the front pads at 125.000 kms for the first time, when the idrive system told me to do it. They were worn out, but nothing crazy.
Two weeks later I changed the rear pads (at 127.000 kms).
The idrive now says 70.000 kms on front pads and or the rear ones. I've driven 25.000 kms since the brakepad change

The brake pads also have wear sensors that should alert to pad thickness wearing to replacement level. iDrive takes other variables into consideration to extrapolate an estimate of miles remaining before brake service is required.

It sounds like some of the people who had bad experiences may not be orignal owners of the car. In my experiences, the iDrive number is accurate, as long as it was reset properly after any brake work was done and as long as the wear sensor is installed properly.
Also, the sensor has been known to cause some squealing at low speeds, etc. I think there was even a service bulletin about it a few years ago...
