Identifying an E60 530d 231Bhp model
Hi , I'm new here... I was hoping somebody could answer a few questions for me.
I'm looking to buy a used 530d prefebly the 231hp model. are there any distict features that seperates the 231hp model and the 218hp model..so I can easily spot the difference before parting with money.
Many thanks in advance

Welcome 16v6n,
I understand the easy way to tell is that the 231bhp models have a starter button, and the 218bhp models have the "old fashioned" key start.

Great thanks for that !! do you know of any other visual differences?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that
the 231 bhp model has DPF (Diesel particle Filter),
and modified injectors and other stuff (not only re-map).
So you can distinguish them looking at the tails:
Straight ones--> 231 bhp
Curved ones --> 218 bhp

The 231bhp models were introduced Sep 2005 (so you need to look for 55 or 06 plates)
And the starter button is a good indication as it also was introduced near year end 2005 - However I saw some 231bhp models with the normal key, so that is not necessarily the rule. However ANY 530d with start button will be the 231bhp model.

Mine is a September 2005 and has the Start/Stop button also.
Gearbox is "generally" smoother, but you won't know that until you directly compare!
