Please don't neglect this post. I need an answer from every member with YES or NO on my following question, and I am going to use your answers in my claim against BMW Egypt.

Did any user of an E60 on this site experience engine oil consumption of 1 liter of oil (1 quart) every 2900 Km (1800 miles) in their cars?

I am facing a big problem with BMW Egypt. My car is still drinking oil.

My car drinked 1 liter of oil at 2900, 5900, 8800, 11700 Km. This means that on average my 520i drinks 1 liter every 2900 km. Honestly I find this very unacceptable, especially from a reputable company like BMW.

BMW Egypt are claiming that this is normal in their new engines due to the fact that the cylinder block and rings are made of what they call NicaSilica. This is a mixture between Nickel and Silicon. They say that due to the hardness of this material, huge friction forces occur in the run in period which causes high oil consumption. They are saying that there is nothing wrong with my car .

I find this utterly inconvincing .

If the answer is yes please provide me with your oil consumption figures .

Thanks in advance.

Shebs

Not using anywhere near that much oil in my 545. Only once in 18,500 miles have I had to add oil and then it was less than 1 quart to top off...

No. (knock on wood)

Are they trying to tie it to conditions? I'd imagine your region could be hard on cars.

I haven't used any oil yet, Shebs. I was very careful during break-in and followed the directions explicitly. After the first wo a change, it was down less than a pint. Currently it is brimming. I have a dip stick.

At over 15,000 miles in 18 months, my 545 has consumed almost no oil. I had it changed at the recommended interval, but otherwise have added no oil.

Sorry, but I've not had to add any oil since new... Just approaching the 10,000 mile mark and still looking good.
