My advice would be to tell your insurer what happened and give them the police report and the license plate information.

They'll find him ASAP and go after his insurance.

i know but last time i did this in a similar accident i had in the past my rate increased because they could never find the other persons insurance aka uninsured so my insurance had to shell out repair money so my premium skyrocketed ! and i would hate for that to happen right now

You could tell your insurer that you are not interested in having them pay your claim if they can't find the other person, i.e., you'll withdraw your claim if they can't find the perp's insurance.

Where did the hit and run occur? Which NYPD policy precinct handled the matter? And are you a NYC resident? I have some other ideas to pressure the NYPD to release the info.

You might want to call your NYC Councilmember's office and see if they can pressure the police into giving you the name of the perp. It does not seem right that you could be victimized like that and the police would protect the identity of the perp who, in hitting and running, has committed a criminal act.

Do you know who your Councilperson is?

Thanks. I wish you luck with it.

I know the NYC system as I used to be a member of one of Manhattan's Community Boards.

FYI, all but about 3 councilmembers are Dems. It's pretty much a one-party city.
