I was trailing a van with a car-car and half of distance and out of nowhere a volleyball size rock was sitting on the middle of the road. Obviously, the van in front of me was high and did not hit the rock at all, but I was unfortunate. I could not avoid it, since there was a car on the left and there was this guy riding a bike on the shoulder. All I could say was F@CK while I ran over the rock

I did not get any error from iDrive and I am hoping that it only damaged the carriage cover and nothing else. If you are inside the car, the damage is directly underneath the gearshift.

I'd think a rock that big would have hit the front fascia......could have been a lot worse.

If you make an insurance claim remember that, generally speaking, damage caused by a rock in motion is a comprehensive loss. Conversely, damage caused by a motionless rock is a collision loss.

It's horrible when that happens - I know that feeling. Did something similar driving back home from Scotland one evening with my family - a lorry had kindly dropped a wooden pallet in the middle lane of the motorway. My RX8 ran straight over it. Nowhere to go and no time to react! Anyhow hope you get it sorted out.

Well all things considered, it was a relatively minor event, none the less I hope it gets fixed quickly!

I know that feeling you get when all you can say is "F*CK" and hope for the best. I was in the same exact position you were just with a piece of wood. I just hoped for the best as I drove over it, heard a thud. But nothing happened
