Craig I agree with you 100% and definitely feel and understand your frustration. I have owned my car for about 2 months now and it has been in the dealer multiple times for multiple reasons. Matter of fact it was in the dealer for 2 weeks out of the first month!

Rudy is right, reliability is different in everyone's opinion. Reliability to me is not having to think twice once I push in the clutch in and hit the engine start button, my car should fire up with no problems, no weird noises, or any weird vibrations....unfortunately its not the case. Although my SA did fix all the problems so far (*knock on wood* seems to be a popular phrase when talking about our cars reliablity) it definitely has me crossing my fingers before my start ups.

I knew what I was getting into, which is probably why I'm not as frustrated as I thought I was in. Given the money paid to buy these cars (Merc and Audi's included) you would think that there is enough money for R&D to get rid of all these problems. Sure risk has to be taken to improve, but take the risk on the prototypes or to be even more reasonable, fix the little issues that arise after the first year production of a new model. For example, one simple one that really takes the luxury out of this luxury car that still hasn't full been resolved is the need of teflon tape to get rid of the interior squeak sound. (Do a search a few members have this problem and they range from 04 - 08!)

So yes, I agree with you Craig. I feel lots of frustration and to be honest....embarassment at times b/c lots of my family/friends are saying "I told you so" everytime my car is in the shop....

Your car is under warranty, so schedule an appointment with your dealer, and let THEM figure it out and leave you to drive the loaner car until they have done so!!

I can't understand how Ford can figure out how to create a tranny that does not suffer from tranny slam but BMW can't.

My car is from the height of the quality for BMW (based on JD ratings), and I have never had any issues.
Wow, perfect roads AND a perfect car!

1) The long cranking is an HPFP issue.
2) The AT slam has be on going since the new 6 speed came out in 2006.
3) Your electronic problems sound like a battery or alternator issue. The FL heat and humidity is very hard on batteries and the electical system.

I have no mechanical complaints. My only quality complaint is that the paint and windshield chip way too easy.

My car is my DD so it never sits very long. I don't take many short trips either. I got the MT for simpicity and reliability.

They have... it's called a manual...

Actually, they have the same issues. My friend's Explorer was in and out of the shop almost a dozen times trying to correct a buggy automatic transmission.

Craig, take the car to the dealer and have them REALLY fix it. You know, I've found that what dealer you take your Bimmer to makes a HUGE difference, as most dealers have no friggin' clue how to work on these cars. But if you find a good dealer, just make sure they take their time replicating the issues and press them for things they try to avoid (HPFP, for instance). My friend's 535 was at the dealer more time than he was actually driving it for the few short months that he's had it and that's kinda another reason I kept my 530, actually. But if you wanna keep this car, you have to keep in touch with the dealer - that just seems inevitable. Like it or not. Feel your pain on being frustrated and absolutely agree that issues like these should not plague such expensive cars. But it is what it is and you take the bad in with the good, so just go to the dealer and do what you have to do

Last night it gave me trouble starting, it cranked longer then usual before starting. no big deal, did it once. but today, after getting out of orientation at school (yes, i am going back to college) i got in the car and the telescoping steering wheel didnt work and the wheel was stuck in "tractor trailer" position. it bothered me, but when i looked over to back out of my spot, i noticed my Passenger side mirror was way out of adjustment.. AGAIN. seems my passenger side mirror is ALWAYS out of adjustment, and my i drive screen never came on. I turned the car off and back on, the idrive booted fine, but the steering wheel was still out of whack. and i am tired of my brakes squeaking, and i am tired of my tranny slam.

WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH BMW?

I have:

1. Never been so frustrated with a car
2. Never owned such an expensive car

...I cant help but feel my experience is common. how many times a day we see long standing members and newbies coming on here with the SAME damn questions. why are these cars so unreliable?

maybe i should have gotten a lexus IS-F.

cant say i have with my car.. not yet.. but i feel like that toward my husband alot lately? so i can relate that way ...lmao
