Ha Ha. they do it. I test drove an M5 in 2001 when I was waiting for my 540 to arrive. It had been ordered for someone else. I ended up getting a speeding ticket on the test drive. What an awesome car. Later I met the guy that bought the car and told him I got a ticket test driving it. I cold see the disappointment in his face, like I had violated his girl.

oh that was so cruel, I could imagine the look on the guy's face. But if you tell the guy, you would get the sales in trouble and no more test driving for you.

It was one of those deals when the words come out of your mouth and you wish you could pull them back in. And, it does concern me about my 550. I don't want someone like me driving my car before me. But, I was glad the dealer let me drive the M5. I will be there the day my car comes in and will not leave it there.

More power, but not to the point were you would want to give up your 545. Remeber you pay much less. I might have gotten a 545 if my lease was up in time.

A dealer is not necessarily there to be your friend.

Business is business.

If someone comes along that appears to be a potential sale, your ordered car is gonna be his test flogger, so you specify to your dealer (CA,SM etc.) that if the car has more than 7 to 10 miles on it you no longer want it.

The question is:

Did some one order that 550? That is one i feel afraid of.

If i order a car, I dont think i want any one else to mess around with before me.

My gut feeling is that no one owns that car. Usually some dealers will order one and keep it in the lot or showroom for prospective customers to test drive, gives them more selling power.

I would imagine that if someone orders their car and it comes in then no one can test drive it, only the owner. They don't want to be liable for any accidents :'(

I was wondering how long it would be until someone posted "the big power" difference!

Picked up the 550, had "1" mile on it, couldn't believe it.......never had that before.

Maybe 6-10 miles, but not 1.

When you take away the intoxicating effects of power and concentrate instead on aspects such as road feel, handling, "BMW soul" what did you think?

Was at the dealer yesterday checking on my 550s status, and saw they had just received a brand new 550.? I asked my salesaman for a test drive, he said no problem.? WOW WOW WOW, what a car, this thing has a lot of power.? Im glad that I got the SMG, this one was a steptronic, and the power was just to smooth for me.? I have had manuals for 15 years.? It was still great though.? Active steering was superb, and so was the comfort access, and comfort seats.? Overall the best car I have ever driven.? And yes I did see a big difference in the power between this and the 545.? Still both great.? But when you pay more you want more.?

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

New options sound cool...I wonder if it was still raining in NJ, I was there last week and it was crazy rain. Would love to have seen some pics...For now on, I think anyone going to a dealer need to bring a camera with them. :

still waiting to hear when mine will be on a ship.
