I have a very late 2005 525i delivered in 2006 with the upgraded engine (silver engine cover) 167kw. I want to upgrade the i-drive as the graphics look a little outdated. My SA says to leave it alone as its working fine. What does the newer version look like??

BMW is scared to update the computer on the car if it all is working without glitches. The reason is that like a PC computer the software can be updated but at a risk of causing new problems. The main reason is the possibility of crashing a module ( such as the CCC ) during the process. The process takes about 4 to 8 hours and it has to be plugged in to a special battery charger the whole time. However if you tell your service advisor that it takes forever for the computer to boot up when you first start the car they can update the software to try and fix the problem. Hint: come up with a complaint in order to get the software update.
