Took car into dealer today for the second time in almost three years from new. They upgraded the i drive and now the front screen is featureless in a bright silver colour. My previous screen had ilustrations of the road, telephone, air currents and music. Also all the displays seem different to before with more wording etc.
Is this the latest i drive look or do I need to take it back. Does your newish E60 have this silver screen theme?
Thanks.

Yes that sounds about right. Although the new update does have one benefit in the nav screen where you can input the name of the location and it'll search based on that. It'll also pull up address, phone #s, etc for that location, which wasn't available on previous iDrive software.
Another thing, I've heard from a few people that after upgrading their software their cars somehow became 'slower' than before, not sure exactly what that means, but that's enough reason for me not to get mine upgraded, even though I should.

Hi Merv
Had my iDrive updated last week also , as i have a faulty parking sensor.
While i was there they updated the idrive etc as i still had the CIP on that took out the L E D side markers (eyebrows) in 2006.
So i have the new colour scheme if you want to compare them side by side ?

I didn't like it to start with but it's a definite grower and I now love it. Much better than the older version IMHO.

Let's see some pics Merv...
I will say that they clearly changed some of the colors and yes, they look a little "washed out" but like anything, you get used to it and before long, the new screens begin to look "normal" and the older screens begin to look strange...

Yes ... pictures please. I have a service scheduled for next month and my SA says that an update may ease my complaints about slow i-Drive start-up.
The improvements in the iDrive interface after the upgrade are well worth the minor annoyance of the color changes, etc. As I said before, you end up getting used to the colors to the point where it becomes a non-issue so I recommend getting the update if you're having issues with your car.

Here's the way I see it (no pun intended...)
