two questions about my car

1, what is the psi / kbr about in the units settings , i know its tyre pressure but when can the system give you this kind of info,

2, i have also noticed since my air bag repair that the brightness control for my i drive screen no longer does anything....

That's a good question but it's definitely not the tyre pressure!

Hmmm, perhaps they updated the software at the same time... I find my brightness control only works downwards... Increasing it makes no difference!

it is indeed a pressure unit. PSI = pound per square inch. I don't know what Kbr stands for though. In the US, many gas stations have air pumps that you can set the tire pressure you want and the air pump stops at the value you set automatically. 36 psi is a save number to set.

You can program your car with the iDrive to show metrit or angloamerican mesures.

1 psi = 6,89 kPascal = 0,069 bar (1 atm ~ 1 bar ~ 100 kPa)

So KB stands for KiloBar.

But do not go to 1,000 bars. You should not drive after that

I know what you meant. There is no tyre pressure reading, right? I agree with you, why it's there whilst there is no tyre pressure reading on i-Drive.

It's definitely not tyre pressure! The system doesn't know what the pressure is... The tyre monitor works with clever software via the ABS sensors.

I'm guessing this was a general settings feature for any display mentioning pressure...

Probably when BMW developed the software they had in mind to put a pressure monitor and asked the programmers to be able to change the measurement units. THen they decided it was too expensive and went with the actual way of determining if theres a flat tire with the ABS and forgot to take that out (which by now with over 12 software updates seems ridiculous that is still there)

Just my theory!

tnx
