This afternoon I was driving my car and I-drive froze for no reason at all. The I-drive never went beyond the start-up lawyer screen that pops up every time you start the car. I could not even turn off the radio!!!!! Even with the key out of the ignition, the radio continued running. Since I was at Target, I decided to quickly run some errands there. 15 minutes later, the I-drive worked fine again. Anyone have any clues as to what caused this? I am going to take it in to the dealer of course.

well , you just experienced what of many of us e60 owner had , the eletronics and gadgets that we have on the car , just turn it off the car , and take a break , after a few minutes will be fine , unless of course this happened several times to you I suggest you to take to dealer to have a software upgrade , just keep in mind and make sure u still have warranty, otherwise...$$$.

Did you try the old iDrive reboot? Eject your nav disk, and then hold both the DVD and CD eject buttons, and also push the volume knob (on the dash, not the steering wheel) in. Hold for like 15-20 seconds. iDrive reboots.

I bought my car in January and have had to do it 3 times so far.

If that?s the case, you should make an appointment to have it serviced. It will crash at some point and not come back if it?s not taken care of.

My i-drive died as well. It started with the same symptoms. My car is at the dealer now. They may have to replace the whole computer. I'm waiting to hear back from them today.
