My Ride: 520d LCI, old engine, manual, black dakota, platingrau II, standard (242?) rims.
It's possible to lower the intensity of the screen. If you're doing a long drive at night, it pays to reduce the light intensity. I found that that really helps (of course in conjunction with turning the screen 'off').
Press the i-drive knob down; it's in the settings area somewhere.
