After just over 3 years of ownership, I said farewell to the 2005 545i. And I haven't been happier. In those years I've accumulated $12,700 in repairs. Most covered by the extended warranty. Maybe I got a "bad" one, or maybe the first owner ruined it, but I figured that if I paid more, I would get more. I did. More frustration, more repairs than ANY other vehicle I've owned (including domestics), more consternation every time I turned the key to start the car. I was afraid to take it on a road trip for fear that something else would go wrong.
My opinion of BMW has forever been tarnished. I used to want an M5, now, it isn't even on the want list. I'm not going to sit here and go over every issue, but suffice to say, I'm disappointed and I don't have too many "good stories" to tell about that car. The good list is short: 1. the steering, I've never felt anything like it 2. the suspension, it's perfect 3. the pull from the engine.
This was my wife's car, so I didn't get to drive it as much as she did. She was frustrated with the amount of times the "dinger", as she called it, went off every time she put the key in. I currently drive a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 sedan. Never an issue with this car. It's just as fast, is cheaper to maintain and comes with a lot more features. We liked it so much, we traded the Bimmer in on a Genesis 3.8 Coupe last night.
I hope all of your experiences aren't like mine and you have better luck with your vehicles. The driving experience was nice when it worked, but it wasn't worth the frustration. Good luck and see you on the road.

The majority of people who post on forums do so because of problems or are enthusiasts....small percentage of actual owners. The majority are enjoying their cars without a problem. You got a bad one....

Sorry to hear about your 545 experience. I think your feelings are entirely justified. I'm inclined to think that you got a bad apple, but since most of us have n=1 for our personal experiments with cars, one bad one is all that matters.
I'm intrigued by the great things Hyundai is doing. Let us know how you get on with your Genesis.
