Damn, $280?!?! That is too much, my stealer told me when I bought the car "You need the extended maintenance, because an oil change is $288 and you can't reset the the computer yourself - you will have to bring it here anyway" Can anyone else count the lies there?

Anyway, sorry you had to pay that much, they could've at least bought you dinner before screwing you like that.

I paid $290 for an oil change!!! They do what they call an oil change and a "scoope".....
Next time I will do it myself!!!
like the other member said they bent you over with no lube.. lol

i always avoided dealership for oilchanges due to their pricing. but yesterday i was there (stevens creek in San Jose) and they have a special ($89.00) oil change deal. I asked if they can do it to my v8 car and they said they would. Thats a really fair price. $290 is way too much

If you're out of warranty and the BMW maintenance service has expired you definitely need to specify exactly what you want the dealer to do. Unless you are reporting a "problem" there is no reason for the dealer to "scope" your car. Your required services will show up in iDrive and if you want to follow a more routine schedule you can do or request most service by mileage and time [e.g. brake fluid flush every 3 years or 36K miles whichever comes first].

Another tip ... if you want your oil and filter changed - ask for THAT ... NOT an "oil service"! The latter may include checks that you can do yourself instead of paying a dealership $100/hour. Any other service should follow the same advice. Dealership SA's are commission based sales people. If you follow your manufacturer's service schedule you are less likely to get hosed. Be specific about what you want done and don't pay for anything you didn't ask to have done.

If they find something amiss (and believe me they will look for service "opportunities" to sell you something) you should always ask for a price quote in advance and ask if it's a service that the manufacturer requires or "suggests". Then at least you can make a decision as an informed consumer.

You can always check with the forum and collect opinions and benefit from a wealth of experience!

Last week at Valvoline - BMW recommended synthetic oil, filter, vacuum interior, tire pressure check - half hour of my time - $77
The only thing I am having trouble with is the I-Drive reset.
But the oil is cleaner than if I had waited for the recommended 15,000 miles.
