Well she claims she was doing less than 10 MPH. I do love the links to new engines and head gasket repairs that somehow got listed on my post. Talk about adding insult to injury!

Key is the speed as others have pointed out. The owners manual actually states never drive through more than a foot of water and then only at "walking" speed...

Certainly not trying to make light of your situation, but here's the first thing I thought of when reading your post.

That's incredible. I thought it was a goner for sure. Glad to see the Bimmer came through. I honestly think I would have done the same, although with a bit more caution after reading this thread. Or maybe just push it to safety. I couldn't live with myself knowing I just let the car go without a fight.

Well that water was much deeper than what my wife got stuck in. Comprehensive will cover the repair less my deductable. I'll let you know what gets replaced as soon as I know.
Same thing happened to my dad 3-4 weeks ago. There was water in an intersection in Chicago (not even over the curbs) and he followed all the other cars in in his 650 until it just died. finally towed him out and to the dealer. Total bill for the fix $29,900.00 but lucky the insurance company totaled it out due to the 33% of value rule after Katrina. It only had 24k for an 06 so he got lucky. BMW said motor, trans and diff and 2 control modules needed to be replaced.

Got a call from the dealer and the damage isn't as severe as suspected. The water..err, I mean air filter was soaked but the engine seems OK. They are replacing the plugs and oil and will call me in the morning if all is well. That's very good news since my deductible is $1000 for my Comp. Don't drive through standing water folks!
