Dealership (tech) phoned today to say before they try to adjust to HUD, they believe there is a reflective square that the HUD projects adjust, that I may not be able to adjust the HUD beyond that square ... which makes sense if that infact is the case ...

Does anyone know if there is a reflective square (or the whole windshield is reflective) ... and if only a square, how best to determine where that square is? Flashlight at night? View at a certain angle? Help !

I'm pretty interested in this discussion. I just ordered by MY06 530i, did not go for the HUD, but am having second thoughts. I'm also a C-17 pilot and have plenty of HUD time, most of it while airborne. Would like to know what all the HUD displays and if you think its worth it? I'm 6'2" and from the sound of it I'd have to get it adjusted as well.... Tnx in advance for any advice! Red

It depends how you sit. I am 6'2" and depending on how I have the seat, it is fine. If I put the seat as low as it goes (which I am used to doing in other cars) then the display is too low. I do think overall I would like it higher since a single hand technique on the steering wheel blocks it. I think if you like sitting low in the car then it will be too low regardless of your height.

I don't think there's a reflective square. The windshield is special but as far as I know, it's special because because of some layer, not because of some reflective square.

Take a look at the following post from the HUD FAQ, it may help explain things:

Here's the word ... there is no reflective square, the whole windshield is reflective, confirmed today. BUT, the limited adjustment is only for focus and leveling and not so much up and down on the windshield, so I've been told by the regional service advisor here in Canada.

Unless someone can give me information (pictures) to prove otherwise, they say there is nothing that can be done...

So if you have had an adjustment to you HUD that moved it up on the windshield, I would be very interested in hearing from you and pictures would be great (of the HUD like the Iceman took at the beginning of this tread)

Had my car in for HUD adjustment today and they are telling me that it's comes from the factory adjusted as high as it goes!?

Nope. Factory default is as low as possible. They can move it up.

Can you take a picture of your HUD image with a car in the distance (safe distance that is) so I can show my dealer it can be done and so I can compare it to mine ... thank again
