My HUD dispaly went on the blink this morning. Very inopportune time since the dealership is closed and we are heading for the open road tomorrow. Anybody experience this and got it working wo dealer help?

Stupid question perhaps...
But did you try the HUD on/off button a few times?

That's pretty much what I'd try first. It's easy to forget that there is an on/off switch for the HUD since, at least in my case, I never shut it off.

Maybe you bumped the button?

If it's not the button, does the HUD come back after the car goes into sleep mode?

If that doesn't work, maybe a battery disconnect/reconnect?

Hope you get lucky and get it back!

Thanks fellows. Got lucky and it's working again. Did not do anything other than look at my settings through i-Drive. Then turned it off, had other fish to fry. Later went back to input some waypoints for the trip and there she was, big as life, a big fat zero for speed.

BTW, ordered the Dinan cold air intake this morning. It will be here ready for installation by Wednesday, but I won't. So, sometime during the first week of May, this thing is going to happen.

I did the accidental hit the button thing at guard shack where we have to dim lights. Did not realize it at the time and panicked. I was lost without my HUD . Panicked and pulled off the side of the road. Fished around and finally found on/off button (when you're looking for it - can't find it), pushed and all was right with the world.

In retrospect, I was at Autoscope this morning in Plano, and Nerces Mavelian was trying to help me figure out Grogan545's OBC gas mileage procedure. At one time or another, we were both huddled near the light switch while the other was playing with the reset button. Nerces has a new E60 530 (wife's car) and was interested in learning the procedure.

What's weird is I don't know how I bumped it on again later. All I did was turn the light switch from auto so it wouldn't drain the battery while I was pluggin in waypoints. Anyway, all is well that ends well. BTW, I invited Nerces to join the E60.net forum. If he does, he can be a great contributor once he gets his wheelbase with the E60.
