HPFP Fuel Pump Failuer

My Ride: 2008 535i LCI with sports/premium package, Sports trans with paddle shifters, CF emblems, JB4 Software, Dinan Exhaust, Navigation, M5Tech body kit, Carbon wrap interrior trim and CIC Controller.
This evening I got the dreaded reduced engine power light along with a CEL. Wife was driving car and called when it happened. She also said that something came up on the screen saying fuel pump or fuel pump failure. I was sure if this was supposed to kas up like that . When she returned i looked i couldnt find wher ths fuel MSG was just the note saying reduced power and take to dealer. I scanned the codes and picked up two. 29F2 And 2AAE. Both point towards the HPFP and this was replaces ~ 20000 miles ago. I just dont know for sure if I got the new and improved one or not. No matted how long the car sat or re started, all lights were back on within 3 seconds.
I'm hoping it's the pump because that is under warranty. Last year I thought it was the pump and the code was 29F3 which turned out to be the low pressure fuel filter and $400 out of my wallet!

Hey Tony - be sure to report back what you find out. I often like to think I am home free because I have a new HPFP. Maybe not!

I sure will. I should hear about it in the next hours. I can't stand this dealer and had the car not been in limp mode I would have driven it to the a different one which I prefer. Sadly, the other two are 1.25 and 3 hours away. I'm honestly expecting the current stealer to come back and tell me its something else and to surrender my wallet!

whichever version of the replacement pump that was installed 20K miles ago will be indicated in that repair order. you may have one that BMW had continuing problem. nonetheless, if that's the problem, it'll be warrantied.

Well, what sux about all of this is the car was there when they opened and I called around 1030 tp see if anyone had gotten to it yet. They said it was actually in the shop. Then a call comes in at 1115 and I missed it and returned the call within 45 seconds only to get a voice mail. Since then, all calls go to VM. How fickin hard is it to leave a few details when they left me a VM? Like, this is Joe Blow at the service dept and e have determined your pump is bad and it's covered and your car should be ready tomorrow. Or, we have identified the issue and it's XXX and we need your approval to proceed with the repair at an estimated cost of XXX.. Nope, I really don't think these guys are very smart enough to think of something so simple. Instead, I get a cal saying that I see you called and please give me a call regarding your car.

BMW warranties all their parts for 2 years from what I understand, so if they replaced it last year it should be replaced for free this time if it is the same part.

OK, they called a little while ago and said it was the HPFP and there is NO charge! Car should be ready soon.

Glad it worked out as well as possible. If you don't mind, could you reply back with the fuel pump part # that failed, and the new one they install? Would be good info. Thanks.
