So my wife won a slot for a 2 day HPDE event($450 value) through our local BMW CCA. As much as I wanted to do the event myself I let her do it since she did win the slot. Without ever doing any events in the past she was put in the newbie "D" class, so she had an instructor with her for each track session. All-n-all it was a great weekend. They actually got 25-30 minutes of track time for each session for a total of 9 sessions between Saturday and Sunday......so that's actually a lot of seat time overall....and the brake and tire wear show it.
She got faster and faster with each session. She said she hit 115 in the straights, and averaged 70 in most of the corners. She said the car handled great, and the instructor was very surprised how quick it was through the turns and on the straights as well. Anyway, she did so well, the instructor bumped her up to the C class for future events. My wife is now hooked, and we are actually considering finding a track car that we can both use
Anyway.....here are a few pics.

I assume that was Barbour Motorsports track? I've not been there but others say its a great track. Yes, the 550i is surpisingly good on track. I've had mine at VIR twice.

Barber is a challenging track but fun too. I'm surprised at the 70mph in most corners though. I don't remember there being that many sweepers on that track. I wish I had a wife that enjoyed cars as much as yours but then I would have to get married.
A good track car could be an E36 M3. Easy car to set up for the track and they can be bought pretty cheap now. Modifications are readily available and again not that expensive. A good E30 would make a good track rat too. Very cheap and tons of cheap mods out there. I had the roll bar put in my old M3 by Kirk Racing located on the north side of Birmingham a long time ago.

Yeah, we're actually considering a e36 m3 after riding in a couple of different instructor e36 m3's on the track over last weekend. Everyone keeps recommending them. I've been researching it, and yeah, they can be found for cheap these days
