04' e60 125k miles (had it since 06) runs and looks like new, well maintained, doesn't look outdated, even with the newer style 5 series. plan to keep it for as long as it runs and doesn't give me much trouble.
i never understood why people switch cars every couple of years? to add some excitement with somethign new...if we don't switch wives every couple of years, might as well switch cars? every once in a while when I feel like I want that brand new car mood, I give my car a nice wash, buff, detail, touch-up, recondition the leather...feels like new. this car has everything i could want.

agree, unless you're in the car business and skilled in buying/selling, the fact is, the average Joe loses money every time he sells and buys a car. I'm fortunate to be able to pay off my cars within a year, thus, I save tons of $$$ on interest payments. So I pay off the car and drive it for 10 years without car payments and get the most out of it from the financial standpoint. People change cars every couple of years because they have to have the latest model, because driving an older model is not "cool" as all their friends and their grandma have the newer body. I also know that selling your car only after couple years of driving will get you the most value out of it, that is, you lose money, but proportionately not as much than if you sell a used car that's like 5-6 years old. Not saying it's wrong to be flipping cars often, it has to do with mentality. In a twisted sort of way, my cars, my motorcycles, my guitars, are my "friends". I like to have several (or many) for variety, I take good care of them and want them to last long.
