The 12 volt power source thats in the back where the passengers stop lighting up orange. How do I replace it? And why did it go out it was never ever used and only 40k miles.
Would it be covered by warranty? Can the dealer give me grief for interior modded led's?

I have warranty so soon I will take it in. I hope my AUX is not out because I never tried that either yet.... needed to get the AUX cable first.

That led is part of the ambient light feature for your car and not related to the other interior lights. Some SA's are more "religious" about fooling with your BMW - others realize that BMW owners aren't typical and are very unlikely to leave stuff alone. But I doubt the SA will even notice your other interior lights are LEDs - most likely they are working in a well-lit shop and won't notice other other interior LEDs.

hi guys
its very easy, the real cover is removed but prying the bottom sides with a scrapper as not to do any damage you need to put a little push into it but it comes right out, the bulb is added to the side of the lighter, you can turn it conterclock wise and them go to any parts store for less then a !.00 and you are done. If you want a great pict show of removing this and the hole consoul go to bemmerfest there is one on the main page under E60, hope this will help in fixing this.

Take a look in my signature for the DIY Rear Seat Heat Retrofit. I also have a pic in there of removing that console.
The best tool for this is one of those free paint bucket lid openers. I like these better than the "scraper" type tool because with those you have to pry against something. With the paint lid removal tool you "hook" the back of the trim and pull.
