Saab has Night Panel, which turns everything off at night, except speedometer.

If you don't want to see anything on the screen, then you can turn that off too.
Although I tried this the other day and the display is "greyed out" rather than truly off. I expected it to go black but it didn't.

Regards,

Yep you're right, the display stays on, only with no output. You'll also notice that the bar across the bottom comes back on briefly between each cd track or if any other data normally shown in the strip across the bottom changes.

I sometimes find the iDrive screen a bit distracting so like to shut it off from time to time (which I have programmed to my steering wheel key) but it's a bit of a shame that you can't totally shut it off.

I agree whole heartidly, while I have to live with the mute as the new off, it is a shame that, for a luxury car, you can't totally shut off the radio/CD/audio system, and have it remain off.

I love driving my car at night because of all the lights and gadgets... especially the iDrive and HUD. And i love the orange glow from all the lights and the extended interior lights package. Lovely ambience. Don't switch it all off
