Indeed the LCI 530i Auto looks like a cracker... Has better consumption figures than my 'old' 530d!!!
Of course the other LCI models have claimed improvements too.

Most of my driving was in town, where the diesel
1-Loses alot of its fuel consumption advantage (espetially Autos)
2-Its unrefined character becomes much more apparent
Moreover, I keep my cars out of warranty, and a Turbo charged car is a time bom that will go off at anytime and expensive to fix.
The petrol is smooth, refined and naturally aspirated
It suited me more, but if someone drive 90% on motorways and always lease the car = Diesel is the right choice as its clatter is much less noticeable on motorways, its fuel consumption would be huge and its turbo would turn into a huge overtaking advantage.

Toneil: #1??? Are Your sure? All the statistics show that in town diesel is allways much more effiency than bensin. This is also because the tehcnology: in partial load, diesel engine works much better. And looking from BMW prochures is tell the same story. remember! Nowadays these EU fuel comsumptions must be close to real world.
I safe allmost 5 litr /100 km compared to my previous cars, and that IS A LOT!

Our 530dA shifts pretty nice, but not as nice as a Mercedes diesel. I just got home from Austria, and drow a rental Mercedes C220 CDI from Austria too Munich (nice BMW airport!)... Man the autogearbox shifts smooth, and this is only a 4-cyl diesel !!
The cab from the airport and home was a E320 CDI with 240.000 km's on clock, and the autogearbox was smooth!
