You can force a reboot of the iDrive (stereo, nav, etc) by pressing and holding the eject buttons for both the CD and the DVD/nav drive and then pressing in the volume control (like you're putting it on mute). The system will then reboot. Just like a PC - three finger salute.
Just in case, for the future.
Thanks

Never crashed, but did have the mute locked on (wouldn't unmute). Switching off, taking key out, putting back in and starting engine didn't fix it. But when I left the car alone for an hour, when I came back to it the mute was unmuteable again.
I did see my idrive reboot itself once about 6 months ago. Only happened once.

Mine has died twice. Both times within a couple of weeks and just after the warrenty expired. The dealer upgraded the software (they pushed it and got it in under warrenty) and it's been fine ever since.

Your passenger can do this while driving (the driver shouldn't do this kind of stuff while driving) as it doesn't reboot the entire car. So your car doesn't suddently stop and then restart itself. Wouldn't that be exciting ?
Cheers

Do you get a lot of electrical problems because of the heat?
