Not an unusual request for one or two cars being considered for purchase at a dealer. However, no car manaufacture is required to release service or recall information for several cars - imagine if it were you receiving that kind of request.

I have 3 recommendations:
  1. I recommend you sort out what car (or two) are your prime pics and visit your dealer service center with your request. If you are known as a customer you might be met with a warmer reception.
  2. An alternative would be to request that the seller obtain the information so you could make an informed decision.
  3. In the United States CarFax reports provide some of that information - Is it available (or a substitute) in Canada?

thanks and yes, that is the problem:

1) The dealers here wants $500 for that (they are not that friendly)
2) Yes, the seller tried that too and he said the dealer wants $500.
3) Yes, I have Carfax but it is not enough becasue they (RIV www.riv.com) said it must be done from BMW database.

ok, I will try to find a good dealer in US... Is there any member here who work for any BMW dealer in the states?

Well with a little leg work on your part or for a few dollars (certainly not $500 per vehicle) I could do some research using the VINS on the cars you are interested in versus my list of Service Bulletins posted elsewhere on the forum which includes all RECALLS (safety or EPA related) and Service Actions (non-safety or EPA items) on e60s. From this I could determine the POSSIBLE IMPACT ONLY on a specific VIN and not the actual work performed. At least you would be aware of the risk for each vehicle. However, as always BMW puts in a disclaimer on Recalls and Service Actions that the list of VINS affected MAY not be the only determination that a specific vehicle requires the action called for in the bulletin (RECALL or Service Action).
