I am trying to figure out if it is possible to know what type of engine is installed in a particular E60. I have the TIS and BMW parts catalog ; when the VIN is entered it asks for option " low compression engine = yes" . I assumed that by entering the VIN the BMW ETK or TIS should be able to identify exactly what is in your car, at least as far as the engine is concerned
Any inputs will be appreciated. I am trying to figure out if I have the second DISA motor on the intake manifold of my 2008 523 LCI model.

No the 8th digit is a vin check number it does not tell you anything about the type of engine....

At least in the U.S., the 8th VIN digit tells you exactly what type of engine was installed in the car when it rolled off the assembly line.

Maybe the codes are interpreted differently where you are.

Good luck.
