I've got the same issue with my e61 touring - washer fluid comes out in 4 spots - you have to use a lot of fluid to clean the entire windscreen. Has anyone out there installed new OEM nozzles to try to fix the problem? Same comment as Nell above - I've driven a 328 of a friend - real nice fan spray pattern - does a nice job of cleaning the salt spray off the windscreen quickly. My 5 series - a bit frustrating. I'd appreciate it if anyone has had any luck in solving this.

Problem solved. I retrograded to the E39 washer nozzles on my E61. They fit in the hood perfectly - no modifications required, just clip in. The heating wiring harness plugs in directly, no problem. The E39 nozzles have two outets on each nozzle that you can aim. They have a bit less flow than the E60 nozzles, and you can aim them higher on the windshield so that the entire glass surface gets wiped with fluid, much more effective removing salt spray from the windshield. It took about 15 minutes to remove the old ones, put in the new ones, and aim everything so it was perfect. Nice upgrade. E39 part number is 61-66-8-361-039. Only downside is the price - $50 each - but the improved performance is worth it.
