I have a cracked manifold housing, at least I think it's a manifold housing.
My wife started her 2005 530i and heard a pop and then saw smoke coming out from under the hood. She turned off the ignition immediately.
The car was garaged and the ambient temperature was in the 60's.
I have no idea what happened or what could have caused this. I also found a broken piece of tubing behind the alternator and it smelled like gasoline.
I've attached pictures of what I could see. There aren't any liquids underneath the car.
Any idea what may have caused this? Is this possibly covered by BMW?
Thanks.

Wow!!! That is a strange damage. Too much pressure in the intake manifold? Maybe that vent pipe was clogged and that caused high pressure condition?
Did you have any problems with the car before that happen? Loss power, rough idle, delayed response?
How many miles on the car?
Do you have extended warranty?
This looks like an expensive repair. Parts alone will be around $600-700

Car hasn't had any problems and I've only got 79K on it. Unfortunately, my warranty has already expired.

Take the intake out and see if there is anything special in one of the intake canals. Maybe one of the injectors is leaking. Inspect the the vent pipes - are they clean?
