Just curious to see what's out there to help us protect our cars from getting stolen ... they can flat bed our cars :/ anyway to prevent that from happening? And there's also another way I don't want to say how its done but they can basically drive off with our cars by knowning certain information about the car which makes me even more paranoid ... can a boot on one of the wheel be affective? A tracking device is good to have but what if they take when your asleep?

Besides parking it indoor, nothing is fool proof from thieves. They can put your car on a flat bed and strip it down by morning; at least the tracking device will help you locate your car to help speed up the insurance claim process.

A good thief always looks for an easy mark. Get access, get the goods, and get away QUICK. The best way to make stealing your car more difficult is by doing the following:
Park it in a garage - out of sight is out of mind.
Park it in a closed location (yard, etc.) that is well lit and where nobody can't get close to it without being easily seen.
Having a dog that will bark if they smell/hear an intruder helps.
Installing a camera in a prominent but difficult to reach location also helps.
This is by no means a guarantee, but if a potential thief thinks its too risky or difficult to steal your car then he will move on.

getting your car stolen is rare, but the fact is: If someone really wants your car there's nothing you can do to stop them. All the gizmos and stuff only help to possibly recover it. My car has a GPS tracker (I know where it is at all times) and LoJack, and all that means is the thief had better hope the cops find him before I do

There is nothing to prevent theft. Just make it more difficult to steal yours.
I always back up to my garage door, always turn the steering to full lock away from the road(makes it harder to put dolly wheels under so they'll steal the neighbour's car) and always make sure the car is locked(lots of people forget). Make sure the keys are not visible through your front door(lots of home break-ins just to get the keys). Set the parking brake to make it more difficukt to roll.
But, if they want your BMW there is no way you can prevent it.
