Hi, my past car is toyota and it got shift-lock button. But I didn't see shift-lock button in BMW, and when I leave the selector lever at N Position. I cannot remove the car's key. Any trick to this? Thanks

You can't. As you found out, there is an interlock between the key and the shift lever; the only way to eliminate that is to remove the shift lock solenoid, which I would not advise since it's a) potentially dangerous b) fairly permanent. Why would you want to anyway?

Coz, sometime I need to park which block other cars. So i need to leave it at N Position. I just found "Overriding selector lever interlock" in owner manual (P.62 for UK version), is this will do the trick for me to park at N? or it's still too dangerous?

Thanks again...

Leave your car in N so that people in your absence can push it out of the way?

You can do that, but you'd need to do it every time you park. And don't forget the steering lock, they would only be able to move it in whichever direction the wheels are pointing when you leave.

I would not say it's really safe, since unless the ground is completely level the car could move on its own and hurt someone/cause damage. Plus, if someone can push the car out of the way, I hope it's in an enclosed and secure space (garage or something), as theft becomes easier.

Couldn't you just leave the plastic spare key in the car and lock the door?

I must be missing something.

If the car is locked, how does anyone get into the car to get the plastic key?
