I have a question. I have a 2006 530xi and it has the HID headlights, the lights are rather low. They point to close to the ground. I was windering if anyone knew a way to raise the headlights? The dealer is to far away for me to just take it in to have them do it. I knwo in my X5 it had two sets of screws mounted on the headlights, and you would turn them as needed, one set was up and down, the other was left and right. I see on the e60 that they have the same, but they dont seem to adjust the lights. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the x5, but the HID are adaptive in on the e60. You might want them to do it at your next service and auto leveling. Its the auto level feature that is defeating your adjustments.

I adjusted them fine, they have metric allen screws on top. One for skewness and one for up-down. As I recall, the up-down are outboard. Auto level adjusts to level set by these hard (meaning non electronic) adjustable screws. I raised my beams a bit and have no flashes from angry drivers. I at least wanted to see more than 50 feet ahead of car which was factory setting for some reason. I couldn't even see street signs at night with low beam.

Do recall which direction to trun the allen screw to raise the HID?

Find a dark wall and try it...

If they go down turn it the other way...

Absolutely, you must have them on and projecting onto a wall. The turn of the screw was sensitive and a quarter turn was enough, however, if you go 2 turns in wrong direction, then, you will have backlash to deal with. Mark headlight level on wall before starting. The line of brightness is so sharp that great care is needed to prevent raising the beams too high. As I recall, turing in lowered the beam; but if I'm wrong, someone will correct me quickly. I also skewed the right (because LHD) beam inward a small amount to raise the angled beam up so I can read street signs better. I couldn't get dealer to adjust for me, but they instructed me how.
