I don't know if this will interest you, but I heard from a reliable source (manager at Munich headquarters) that there will be NO FWD (X-drive) on current model 8-cylinder 5-series. :thumbsdown:
He admitted that this means a mayor drawback agaist Audi and Merc, especially on the US market, and they would, from a marketing viewpoint, love to offer it.

you must be a BMW newbe if even the thought crosses your mind that they would offer it as a standard feature; i am frightened of the day that they will start charging extra for the doors or the sparkplugs

oeps: must appologise: I am talking about their european policy; if you're in the US, it's a different ballgame: they offer their cars over at your place for reasonable prices with a list of stock options we europeans can only dream about (or pay dearly) 
seems they are offering the 530 touring with standard AWD overthere. (well, at least they do sell the big V8 touring overhere)

bmw going the audi way ?? i dont know if i like the idea. The 7 series- ok its a limousine and should be safe not fun, but introducing this across the entire range would be silly
