Dropped off my car this morning for new door seals, along with the transmission "slam". Also noticed lately that my idle is a bit rough. Nothing too bad, but rather than being pegged at 750 (w/ AC on), the needle fluctuates up and down slightly. Is that normal? I seem to recall the needle pegging the 750 and not moving until I hit the gas. We'll see. Also finally getting the wood trim installed around the center cubbyhole in my non-Nav 2004 car. Will look great with the poplar shift knob and e-brake handle...

Now that Dennis has spared you, it's back to serious stuff. I'll bet that new poplar wood will look great. My needle is still sitting pretty steady. If there is a problem at idle, that should be easier to find. Good luck.

Thx JDN. How did the family and new grandkids make out in Mobile? Sounds like it was more of a glancing blow there, not too bad. I guess any excuse to get in a visit from the grandkids is welcome!

They never lost electricity. One was under the mandatory evacuation, another was transferring to Savannah, and the third was still in the hospital with the new twins. I am now batching for a spell so if Emily materializes into a monster, bring it on.

Another quick question for you guys. The dealer is also checking the fan for me. It seems to me, and maybe I just never really noticed it before, but when I kill the engine, the fan seems to be quite noisy as it winds down. Do others have this, am I simply finally noticing it or are your fans pretty quiet? Thanks for the help.

My fan is pretty quiet now. There was a time when it appeared to have a bearing problem, but that turned out to be an AC problem. That noise was noticeable anytime the engine was idling.

Interesting JDN. Refresh my memory, what was your AC issue again, the compressor? Did you notice any problems with the AC other than the noise? Mine seems to be functioning fine, but maybe the noise is signaling an impending failure.

How much does the wood trim go for nowadays? Is the dealer still the only place to get it?

The list price (pre-BMW CCA discount) is $152.60 for the center console trim, and yes, as far as I know, the dealer is the only place to get it.

I have had this problem of rough idle and fluctuating rpm needle since the day I collected my ride. It is a real diasppointment. I have sent it in to the dealership many times but they are just unable to correct the problems.

I was under the impression that this is an Asian problem; the temperature here is quite high, but it seems not. Actually, if you check all the threads and responses about this rough idling, jerky response and fluctuating rpm needle, the guys who experience these problems are those driving the 545, and it's supposed to be the top of the line E60.
