hopefully figured the tranny issue!
Hey Guys. Just thought I would share my venture with getting my transmission fixed. First off my car is a 2005 530I auto. Like everyone else with a E60 with tranny issues, My car is doing the same. My cars just hit 140k the motor still runs strong! my transmission began doing the whole jerking thing when going up hills and not holding a gear if going up a hill. Well today my transmission went in to malfunction mode as I was coming down a hill. when it has done this in the past, all I had to do was shut the car off then turn it back on and it would reset. well this time it was not resetting. so I ended up towing it to my dads shop, who works on european cars. and after looking around. we pulled the transmission pan off and drained the fluid which was a brownish in color. but everything else looked good. Ive heard through searching the interwebs that the transmission solenoids can be replaced. so after searching I found a place in california that sells solenoid kits. it cost $485.00 which is way cheaper then a new or used transmission. once it comes in I will install it and hopefully it will correct the shifting issues. I will keep everyone updated on the results. if it does fix the issue? maybe it would save everyone else with the same issue of replacing the whole transmission.

Hi there 95mpower,
I’m having similar problems with my 07 525i auto. Started about a year ago, when I’m in low rpm's and I punch the pedal (tries to downshift) it usually goes to transmission malfunction mode (only on D mode) once on DS or manual its good and strong. I had my transmission oil changed at 100k (currently at 105k) by my BMW mechanic (brother in law) said that the transmission was good and oil was a bit low but did not look or smell burnt. (He mentioned usually bad transmission have a different smell when the oil is drained). I would appreciate if you can keep us updated and hopefully the solenoid kit works.
