Hood Will Not Open

I have a 2007 550I with 147,000 miles. My minimum oil warning came on and I found that my hood would not open. I have taken off the front under covers and front inner fender and could not find a way to open the hood. Took it to BMW and was told it could cost as much as $1,300, more if they had to break the kidney grills. I live in NC could any one direct me to a place to get it fixed or tell me how to do it PLEASE. Any help would be greately appreciated.:please::please::please::mellow:

More than likely the plastic lever has broken inside where the cable is connected. It is a spring loaded lever so probably feels normal to you, just no 'clunk' of hood opening at end.
Remove door sill strip that runs over carpet, undo the single screw holding panel with lever connected and pull away. Find cable behind this panel and tug with pliers and hood should open. Throw lever in bin and twist a piece of wire aroung cable lug and feed back through panel hole and re assemble for tempory fix until you can source a new handle......or dont worry about it.

Oh,with the door strip....just put your fingers under the inside edge(closest to seat) and pull up with even pressure.Should just pop straight up,there are 4 clips running along its center.

......and dont break your electronic boot release wire,it can be removed by squeezing edges and sliding off its connector at button.

$1,300 for breaking kidney grills? You can do that for free!

I have seen a similar post on the E90. Makes me want to figure out a plan in case this ever happens to me. Seems like a lot of trouble for sure.
