I have been posting over the past few months about my hood making a crack/creaking noise over bumps. I isolated it to the hinges. I lubricated them which fixed the problem temporarily. I then took it into BMW and they did the same thing. I called the SA back a few days later to tell him that their lubricant lasted about as long as my WD40. He said he would talk to the technician and would call me back. That was a week ago and I have not heard anything. Over the weekend I was washing my car with creaking hood and all. I then took a shop rag and stuffed it between the two joints of the hinge, closed the hood and presto problem solved. So I am now driving around in a somewhat quiet 50k+ car ( I still have steering wheel buttons rattle and the door rattles a bit but it doesn't really bother me) with shop rags stuffed under the hood to keep it from creaking? Sort of funny actually and I do like the car, but when my lease is up I might go back to Lexus/Toyota that didn't give me any problems.

You'd give up all that your BMW has to offer for a noisey hood hinge that could easily be corrected by your dealer or yourself? That seems pretty silly to me, but if that's what's most important to you, I suppose you probably should be in a Lexus.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great car and is state of the art and I am enjoying it. I was being a little sarcastic and my point exactly that this thing is silly. However I found it frustrating the process that I have gone through so far. It has not been easily corrected by the dealer and I have not bugged the SA at all. I have only called them once and I think I deserve some sort of call back. Also I don't think a shop rag is a proper correction. I have seen many complaints about noisy tires, door seals, etc that people are dealing with and nobody has trivialized them. What is important to me is not to have my car sound like a golfball just bounced off my hood everytime I pull into my driveway or garage.

Maybe you need to take your car somewhere else for service. If your current dealer isn't addressing your problems, you shouldn't waste your time with them.

I think the point is for a 50K+ car it shouldn't have so many rattles/creakings. If we all think it is OK to have these annoying rattles since it drives great, BMW will never improve. After all we all want a superb and enjoyable BMW, don't we?

We definitely want to get what we pay for and your dealer should be taking care of these complaints for you. If not, you have to find one that will.

My feelings on the creaks and rattles are that some are to be accepted on a performance car. I don't expect this car to be wisper quiet like my Lexus was. That is why I got out of a Lexus and into a BMW, I wanted more of a driving experience. If I do pursue thid hood hinge problem I might check in with another dealer.
