does sound a bit worrying.

if greece goes under, it could mean the euro breaking up or at least, greek exiting the euro. then definitely big shit hitting turbo blades!!

All Euro countries will not allow this to happen.
Just ... only if other countries are going the same route ... then ... kaboom!

I think it was the environmental Laws that kills turbo engine in 80'. when there was not so good tech or cost concerned force car makers to abandon turbo in favor of high-rev engine with timing- controlled valve.
Recently, the turbo tech is mature enough or already cost efficient and in terms of exhaust regulations equal to NA.
The down size is of the turbo's merit when compare equal HP.
Just my limited knowing, correct me if any wrong..

I was lucky enough to own and drive one of those turbo cars from the 80s. seems to me the big turbo lag really restricted the application to enthusiasts and sports car. the turbos these days are smaller and much less turbo lag so can be used as a daily car. friends who has bought audi told me they have v good fuel economy which is important for todays emission standard, (believe the reason is the engine size is smaller compared to the equivalent na engine).
