I thought for sure we would have a bunch folks jumping in saying that they have one button for home and the second one for their beach house or mountain retreat...

[/quote]I'll jump in and say other other for the gate and third for nothing. On the original remote the third one is used to control the lights to the garage door openner but cant get that to program into the homelink.

Homelink is used on lots of vehicles. You can call 1-800-Homelink and they will answer your questions.
You can also purchase an adapter kit for interior home lighting or other things. I'm sure if you look around on the web you can find some of these accessories.
