So on Friday I went out to meet some friends, indicated and took a left turn. The car behind me, also turned, but too fast and clipped the rear right hand side of my car with his front left corner.

We both stopped and got out, I realised he was drunk as he couldn't walk very well and he had to lean on my car. I told him that if he wants to rest on a car then to lean on his! He was also driving a BMW 520i like mine but a different colour.

Anyway, he tells me that he has no insurance and not to worry and that he will arrange to get my car fixed. I said OK but I want the money now or I'm going to call the police. He says he doesn't have any money on him and we can sort it out tomorrow. I reply saying that I want the money now, we can go to the bank to withdraw the cash or I will call the police.

He says to not call the police and that he'll get my car fixed as he has no money at the moment and blah blah, long story short I called the police and as I did he ran to his car and drove off!

I had the number plate, so gave the information to the police, they came and took a statement and tried to find him. They couldn't locate him until Sunday, so by then the alcohol would have been out of his system.

He called me yesterday and basically, he has no cash, as work is down, that's why he doesn't have insurance and that he knows a good bodyshop that will fix my car and he can pay them at a later date.

I say no and that I want to go to my bodyshop as I trust them. As he has no insurance I don't want to claim on mine, as next year my insurance will go up due to the claim. We have an Insurance Fund here that covers situations like these but it can take up to 6 months before they even look at the case. He is Russian, no offence V , so I don't want him to leave the country and then be left with a damaged car.

I went to my bodyshop and his bodyshop, my bodyshop is actually cheaper than his, but he doesn't have the cash to pay now so basically I'm stuck in a situation where I have to use his bodyshop. He says if I am not happy with it then he will make him paint it again or we can go to my bodyshop and get it done there.

I have attached pics below of the damage, I also need a new reflector as mine got cracked in the accident.

The situation is really pissing me off because I have had my car for 2 and a half years and not even scratched it once! It gets hand cleaned every other week and is looked after mechanically and now it won't be the same. I'll be getting an M-Tech rear eventually anyway.

He even had the cheek to ask me if the car was even mine because I look too young to drive this car? I'm 28 by the way but look a lot younger due to my beautiful facial features

I have my car fully insured, taxed and MOT'd and he doesn't have insurance and is older than me and was drink driving!

I mean seriously, WTF! Cheeky bastard!

Sorry you have to go through this; but, that damage is very minor and can easily be repaired by a bumper specialists that makes those kind of repairs every day, all day. We have one here in Austin, so maybe your town has one as well.

Dude that sucks. Did his bodyshop have his number (cell or other) that you can provide to the police?

Did he have a valid license?

Sorry to hear man, but the damage isn't much at all, considering a collision. Shouldn't be too much or too long to fix.

Your damage is minor, the sort of thing that can happen in a car park with the offender long gone.In that situation, there is nobody offering to get the repair done free of charge,so take up the offer,if he doesn't pay, his bodyshop will have to chase him.

Hang tough, Tom! Don't worry 'bout a thing - this is minor stuff (we get stuff like that in NYC just parallel parking )
