My Ride: '05 545 Jet Black, Miro 111's, Painted Calipers, Slotted and Drilled Rotors, Ultimate Interior LED Kit, ACS Rear Spoilers (reps), HID 7k Fogs, Black Roundels and Badges, 20% Tint, Mtech V2 Angel Eyes, Ksport Coilovers, M5 Bumpers and Side Skits, ACS Front Lip (rep), and probably more on the way as you read this...
the alternators are about $500 (or much more if you go through the dealership).

2008 528xi - 97,000 miles, I've had it since it had 9,000 miles. So far:
- shifter at 35,000
- couple sets of front rotors
- 1 set front brakes at 70,000
- Vanos solenoid at 40,000
- oil filter housing gasket at 75,000
- valve cover gasket at 75,000
- Mechatronics seal at 80,000
- battery at 95,000
- change oil when the car calls for it, usually 15 - 19,000 miles
- sparkplugs at 96,000
- tires every 30,000 or so
