Recent posts on cost of repairs made me wonder........ Someone said that keeping the car past warranty would not be a good idea. So, exactly how long are you guys keeping your cars, and what milage have you raked up already?

Yes, cost of repairs for E60 not a cheap. But i'm buying only second hand cars for my self, 2-3 years old. For example: i bought my 530d E60 '04 when she was 3 years old with 93k mls for 35k Euro at the time when the new car with the same specs cost 87k euro (Ireland, probably one country in Europe who have 30% Vehicle Registration Tax Duty). My previous car 530d E39, i bought her when she was 3 years old with 90k mls for 21k euro, the cost of the new car was - 75k Euro. I sold her in 2 years for 19k Euro. Why to buy a new car and lose half a price of the new car in 3 years, if i spending on repairs per year about 2k euro? The 3 years old BMW driving, i would say, as 9 out of 10. I keep a car usually 2 years, but i know people who keep BMW for 5 years and more - and NO PROBLEM!

P.S. Everything breakes... Everything needs just good servicing and love from the owner.

forgot to say my own milage - 33k now, but PCP for 120k. Simon - in your 150k, anything much went wrong?

Buying a 2nd hand car didnt work for me. My car was new, with fairly base level spec. Cars a yea r or so old are normally more fully loaded and often depreciate to be very close to what I got mine new for ! (?24k)

All the major problems happened in the first 2 years and were sorted under warranty. Most annoying was being without the heated steering wheel in January and February!

Stopped using a BMW dealer for servicing at about 100K and now use a local BMW specialist. Nothing to report in the last 50K. Fuel consumption keeps getting better. Perhaps the engine is just starting to loosen up? I was getting 41+ MPG in the summer but this has dropped back to 40+ MPG.

A few creaks and rattles, and the drivers seat (black leather) is showing signs of rubbing wear.

well iv just picked up an 06/55 520d with 42k on the clock for ?11k, its in cracking condition but i do have to say it does worry me wen the warranty is out of date with the cost of running, but having a read a good amout of posts here im glad to say that they seem to good wen out of warranty and have made me feel alot better,

i may sell it in a year ( best of with the money i paid for it ) and get a 525d or the 530d but will need to read up abit more on these first, to see wat will be best for us..

Bought my 09/03 E60 530D manual last may on 108k miles. Now on 123k miles. One oil service, due rear brake service now. Only non-service problem was a stuck bonnet, which unfortunately cost ?360 to repair (both catches, lever, cables, + 2hrs labour). Other than that it's been absolutely fantastic. Cost me ?14k (around ?33k new I think?).

Personally, I don't think a warranty is worth the ?18k I saved on a new one .

Andrew
