I have converted from a '99 523iA to a '04 525iA and I am a bit disappointed by the increased fuel consumption.
Comments anyone?

Your disappointed? Try a 550.
I see the fuel needle moving left everytime the gas pedal gets stomped. A real fat pig in city driving. 17 mpg tops. Not bad on highway though.

It is correct as Ricracing says: from 170 hp 523i to 192hp 525i. But the E60 is only 5 kg lighter than the E39 (1500 kg vs. 1505 kg without the driver).
I don't understand why going from one pollution standard (Euro 3) to a newer (Euro 4) should give higher gas consumption
and it is CO2 which is the big issue, isn't it? (except in US
)
Well, it's disappointing, but it seems I have to live with it and pay the extra gas it needs

On my 523iA I got typically 10.5 liters per 100 km (22.4 US mpg) with this kind of driving. This was what my computer told me - I never checked real consumption on the E39. On the E60 525iA the computer tells me typically 12.0 liters per 100 km (19.6 US mpg). And actually when I checked last week the real consumption was even higher (12.4 l/100km = 19.0 mpg). That's high, isn't it? :thumbsdown:

, even after the software upgrade. Also do you feel the E39 was way more responsive on the throttle and felt like there was still a lot of juice to go? my E60 lags along and then kicks in after some time and just flattens out..... i just don't get it
