high winds

Has any one else noticed the inability for the car to maintain a strsight line in highwinds? I was driving last night in nasty weather doing about 60-70mph, and the car was all over the place being buffeted in high winds. I dont remember my e39 acting the same way

Another thread mentioned that the E60s are not the best cars in the wind, but I really hope it is not that drastic. I am very pleased with how my E46 does, and I will be thoroughly disappointed if the E60 is worse.

Do you have the Active Steering? I recall some discussion a long time ago about how the AS behaved with strong crosswinds. I have driven my car in 20-30 mph crosswinds going across our local 24 mile bridge across Lake Ponchatrain and had no problems w/ the car's behavior. I don't have AS on my car.

Why would AS behave ANY differently in high wind than non-AS?
AS changes the ratio dependent on speed, but not on small speed icrements but large ones. As long as you are driving over something like 40 or 50 mph, the ratio is at 18:1
I've never noticed winds blowing my E60 with AS, either.

I've noticed a slight difference between the e39 and the e60. I think the e39 was maybe heavier?

Active Steering will make correction to the car's intended direction, if the wind is blowing into the car. Your brain tell you to make the correction yourself, but you should just let the Active Steering do the correction. Otherwise, you'll be fighting the Active Steering.
Based what I read from other posts related on this subject, 17' tires and skinnier tires owners generally do not have the cross wind problem. The 18' tires and larger tires, AS owners tend to have the same observation as you, if their previous car was really stable against high wind.
