Hi troops.
Great forum.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the best engine oil to use in my 520d M Sport 56 plate with 100k motorway miles on it. Engine still seems sound, with almost 100% compression still.
Anyone tried the AMETECH engine RESTORE treatment?

Look on the Opie oils website for ideas.

5w-30 full synthetic, I personally used Lubro-Moly 5w-30 last time I changed my oil.

I have tried RESTORE on other cars (read: cheap Honda) any effects seem to be temporary as it just coats the cylinder walls and eventually wears off.

If you have no loss of compression I wouldn't fool with the RESTORE. I would run a bottle of diesel injector cleaner (Lubro-Moly makes an excellent one
Amazon Amazon
) My friend with a diesel Jetta swears by it.

since our cars are supposed to use fully synthetic oil and nothing else, I wouldn't recommend any of the "high mileage" oils out there since they almost always are synthetic "blends" which would be worse for our engines than to just continue to use a good quality fully synthetic oil in the first place (I have been using Royal Purple for years now on many cars).

Could anyone chime in on the weight of oil to use for a Canadian winter? (my car: 2004 545i)

Mobil 1 recommends 0w-40 for better startup protection at cold weather temps

Do you have an opinion on whether it would be safe to run a Royal Purple 0w-40 for the winter? Stealership is an hour away and I'd rather not be stuck on their BMW branded Castrol stuff, if possible.

IMO Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Lubro Moly synthetic, all excellent products.

I prefer all 4 of them over Castrol/BMW. Just because the two have a corporate marketing agreement does not make it the best oil in the world for BMW.
