 I have had my 530d for five months or so and have achieved nearly 19,000 miles. no problems with the engine but i have had problems with: drivers window not going up until the fault light comes on, the idrive screen dont work below 3 degrees, the drivers cup holder sticks all the time and for the latest.........wait for it..........the passenger side front alloy suspenssion strut has sheared..YES SHEARED...this caused the wheel to collapse and bmw say" its not covered under warranty because they have not seen it before" I am presently in a heated discusssion with them because including the damage to my wheel and lower valance when the car dipped its going to cost in excess of ?1,600.00 to repair..

Ive been a mercedes man for nearly ten yrs this is my first beamer and it will be my last.

I would an independend specialist investigate this issue and if he finds bmw to have made a fault on the car I would sue their butts off.. This can be very bad for sales if people hear this.

I'd have to tell them, "Bully! It's their job to determine cause." Just because it is a first, doesn't excuse them from warranty obligations. Can't believe they won't cover this unless there are some signs of serious abuse.

JDN is absolutely right, unless there is obvious abuse or signs that the strut failed due to an accident/impact like hitting a curb, I can't believe the dealer even questions this. I would fight them all the way, and being as nasty as I had to be!

my arguement is that the fault caused the wheel to collapse hence damage was caused they are saying because they have never seen this before they are claiming that it must have been impact damage......"yes there was impact damage when the bloody thing hit the ground"

While there may be damage related to the collapse, clearly a major impact would be need to shear the strut like that! That kind of impact would surely have caused major damage to the rim and tire, well beyond what scratching/scraping may have happen upon collapse. Don't know where you are, but I would get BMWNA or BMWUK involved in this and document everything. Don't leave the decision to some local dealer.

13,000 miles with no mechanical problems.

Fuel economy is about 30 mpg, and that's mostly motorway at 130ish mph
Wow, Flowerfred, I take it you don't spend too much time driving in London!

I'm just back from a trip to down round the Javea area in Spain - average 42.8 mpg for the return leg. We covered ~4,000 in 2 weeks, car didn't miss a beat.
