Isn't there a tag for the color under the hood or on the door sill?

I swear I have never seen that color on an E60 or E61 before. Very unique.

There is a little plate under the bonnet (a bit difficult to see), but all it says is "Rot", which is either German for Red or an indication that the car will fall to pieces in rust in six months time!

Awsome job, the step by step photos are very informative and I'm sure this will answer a lot of questions someone might have with this project.

Very nice instruction set and photos. However, if I'm not mistaken, it appears your car has halogen reflector type dipped (or low beams as we say in the U.S). HID light kits should never be installed in these type of headlights. The light output from such an install will be scattered all over the road and surroundings and cause tremendous glare to oncoming drivers.

The E60 LCI cars (which was effective for model year 2008 and later in the U.S) changed the halogen headlight units from reflector to projector type on the dipped beams. These projector headlamp units can be retrofitted quite effectively with an aftermarket HID kit. The projectors control the light output very well with their internal metal cut-off mask and front fresnel lens. Oncoming drivers do not experience glare if the lights are correctly aimed.

I believe you have a rather strict MOT inspection in the UK. If so, there is a good chance this headlight modifiction will be found and you will have problems.

If I'm wrong about the type of halogen assemblies in your car, I apologize. I mean no offense. Just a word of advice and caution.

Nice color car by the way. In the U.S. it's officially listed by BMW as Barbera Red. Not too common here.

ace your correct, these will be an mot failure, but most people just take them out when it comes to mot time.

Very nice! May I ask why you removed the slam panel though? All you need to really do is pop off the rubber in front of the slam panel and remove 1-2 screws to get the top of your front bumper a little loose and the headlight will slide right out. Either way works I suppose tho
