Guy's i'm in need of some assistance. My 550 has a leaky vacuum pump (no surprise there). I have the gasket kit and oil pressure switch all ready to go however, the previous owner stripped the lower star pump bolt. Any suggestions on how to get that sucker out? I've tried 2 different sets of stripped bolt removal sockets with no success. I would drill and tap it but, there's no room and i can't see the damn thing.

If there's a good amount of the screw head still on there, then I would try using a small vice grip clamped to head and gently turn it. If that don't work, then as last resort I would chisel off the head, pull vacuum pump off and then use vise on the exposed bolt. Both would be tough to do considering the lack of space down there but do what I always do - think and be positive, it can be done. A good challenge may test your patience but will always build confidence. Good luck

If all else fails you can have someone come out and tack weld a small socket to the face of the bolt. This will allow removal. It may cost $75 but a heck of allot cheaper than ruining your front cover.
